The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has achieved a sweeping victory in the local government elections held on September 28, 2024, in Anambra State. The party secured all the available chairmanship and councillorship seats across the 21 local government areas of the state.
The results were announced late Sunday evening at the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) headquarters in Awka by the Commission’s Chairman, Genevieve Osakwe. In her official declaration, Osakwe confirmed that APGA candidates had won every one of the 21 chairmanship positions as well as all the councillorship seats. She explained that the results were collated and declared at the ward level.
Osakwe further described the election process as one of the “fairest” in recent history, noting that ANSIEC took great care in collecting and verifying the results to ensure accuracy and transparency. She commended the efforts of security agencies in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere throughout the electoral process, which contributed to the smooth conduct of the elections.
In her formal statement, Osakwe said, “This is to confirm the results of the chairmanship and councillorship elections held on 28 September 2024. The polls were free, fair, and credible, and APGA candidates have been declared the winners, having secured the highest number of votes.”
