President Bola Tinubu has called on the Armed Forces to confront the nation’s adversaries with increased military gallantry and advanced tactics, stressing that Nigeria must uphold its position as the “Giant of Africa.”
The President issued this directive on Saturday in Kaduna, during the combined passing out parade of the 71 Regular Course of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with graduates of the Direct Short Service Course 28 (Army) and Direct Short Service Course 32 (Air Force) from the Nigerian Defence Academy. A total of 823 officers were commissioned into the Armed Forces.
Represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, Tinubu urged the newly commissioned officers to maintain unwavering focus and professionalism in their duties, noting that elite militaries play a critical role in sustaining democratic systems. He expressed confidence that those entrusted with the leadership of the nation would fulfill their responsibilities effectively.
Tinubu acknowledged the numerous challenges currently facing Nigeria, including economic hardship, deteriorating living standards, unemployment, and widespread insecurity, all of which threaten the fabric of the nation. Despite these daunting issues, he reassured the public that his administration is more committed than ever to securing national unity, ensuring the safety of its citizens, and repositioning Nigeria for future development.
Addressing the military’s sacrifices, Tinubu highlighted the sobering reality of widows and children left behind by soldiers who have laid down their lives for the country’s survival. He instructed the leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces to develop a comprehensive policy aimed at providing support and alleviating the suffering of the families affected by such losses.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s post-independence history, Tinubu noted that the country has experienced a mix of turbulent and prosperous times. However, he vowed that his administration is determined to chart a new course—one that fosters unity and inclusion, ensuring no citizen is left behind.
The President also reminded the graduating cadets of the significant investment the nation has made in their training and emphasized that they are now integral to this noble mission of safeguarding and advancing Nigeria’s future.
