The Gombe State Government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Community Action for Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) and the Gombe State Action for Recovery and Economic Stimulus (GO-CARES), has empowered a total of 573,429 farmers and vulnerable individuals by providing them with essential agricultural inputs.
As part of the fourth phase of this initiative, the beneficiaries received fertilisers, herbicides, and seedlings, among other crucial farming materials, aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and alleviating poverty in the state. The distribution event took place on Monday at Amada, within the Akko Local Government Area of the state, where the Gombe State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Salihu Alkali, outlined the scope of the programme.
Alkali noted that of the 573,429 total beneficiaries, 152,429 people would benefit directly, while an additional 421,000 individuals would reap indirect benefits. He elaborated, “This fourth phase of the GO-CARES initiative will impact beneficiaries across three key result areas, focusing on rural infrastructure, basic services, and community development projects. Through these efforts, 152,429 people will directly receive support, while 421,000 will benefit indirectly through the improvements in their communities.”
The commissioner also encouraged the beneficiaries to make full use of the inputs provided, stressing that the programme was designed to uplift the underprivileged and enhance economic growth in the region. He added, “It is the belief of His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Dan Majen Gombe), that with proper utilization of this support, poverty will be significantly reduced, small enterprises will be strengthened, and the economic development of Gombe State will be greatly enhanced.”
