Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has responded to an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), his media office confirmed on Wednesday. According to the statement, Bello had earlier sought legal protection for his fundamental rights to ensure fairness and adherence to due process during the ongoing investigation.

The statement, issued by the Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, Ohiare Michael, noted that the former governor’s decision to cooperate with the EFCC followed consultations with his family, legal advisors, and political allies. It was titled, “Former Governor Yahaya Bello Honours EFCC’s Invitation.”

Bello was accompanied by several prominent figures to the EFCC’s headquarters, further underscoring the significance of the investigation.

The former governor has faced continuous scrutiny from the anti-corruption agency over alleged financial misconduct during his tenure as governor of Kogi State. He and three others are currently facing 19 charges of money laundering, involving the sum of N80.2 billion.

Despite the allegations, the statement emphasized that Bello has taken proactive steps to engage with the EFCC, asserting that he has “nothing to hide and nothing to fear,” as he aims to clear his name of the charges against him.
