The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on accountants nationwide to uphold the highest ethical standards and ensure strict adherence to financial regulations in the country.

Olukoyede emphasized that fraud in the public sector is often difficult to execute without the involvement of accountants, urging them to act with integrity.

A statement released on Wednesday by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, highlighted Olukoyede’s remarks during his goodwill address at the 29th Annual National Conference of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN).

Represented by the EFCC’s Director of Finance and Accounts, Ahmed Pate, Olukoyede pointed out that accountants frequently play a key role in enabling various forms of financial misconduct. He stressed that the EFCC seeks a more transparent and accountable accounting profession that can gain the public’s trust.

He further challenged ANAN to take a proactive role in ensuring strict enforcement of ethical guidelines and fostering a culture of professionalism within the accounting field.
