Senators Donate N74 Million to Aid Victims of Maiduguri Flood

Senators have collectively contributed N74 million to assist those affected by the recent catastrophic flood in Maiduguri, Borno State, which claimed lives and caused extensive property damage. The flood was triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam, situated roughly 16 kilometers south of the city.

The financial support was disclosed by Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, during a visit to Maiduguri on Tuesday. He led a delegation representing Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Barau announced that each of the 108 senators would donate N500,000, amounting to a total of N54 million. In addition, he personally pledged N10 million, and the Northern Senators Forum also contributed N10 million, bringing the total donation to N74 million.

Upon arrival, the senators were warmly welcomed by Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum. During the visit, Barau expressed deep sympathy and offered heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Senate to the people of Borno for the tragic loss and damage caused by the flood. He emphasized the Senate’s commitment to supporting the state in its recovery efforts.
