Unidentified attackers stormed Umunze Police Station in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State early on Monday. Witnesses reported that the assailants fired shots into the air before forcing their way into the station. During the attack, several police officers were caught off guard and shot, with parts of the premises set ablaze using improvised explosive devices.

According to local sources, the attackers caused panic in the neighborhood as they opened fire while approaching the station. After breaching the gate, they injured officers and attempted to inflict further damage. However, an exchange of gunfire with on-duty officers eventually repelled the attackers, who fled the scene.

Anambra State Police Command spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the attack and stated that a manhunt was underway. He added that joint security forces, including the police, military, and other agencies, had recovered five unexploded explosives from the scene. Sadly, two officers lost their lives during the gunfight. The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, visited the site to assess the situation and strengthen security measures.
