Osun Monarch, Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Aromolaran Passes Away

The Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, a prominent first-class monarch in Osun State, has passed away. His death was confirmed on Thursday through a statement signed by the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Chief Yinka Fasuyi, in Osogbo, the state’s capital.

Prior to Fasuyi’s confirmation, there had been growing concern regarding the monarch’s health, as reports suggested he had been unwell for some time. Fasuyi, while paying tribute to Oba Aromolaran, remarked, “An Era Comes To An Abrupt End,” marking the official announcement of the monarch’s death.

In response to the news, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar expressed his heartfelt condolences via his X (formerly Twitter) account, sharing his personal grief. Abubakar, who was also Oba Aromolaran’s son-in-law, recalled the late king’s fatherly kindness and described him as a figure of courage, boldness, and discipline, qualities that exemplify the Ijesha people. Oba Aromolaran had ruled for 42 years, having ascended the throne on February 20, 1982, and remained a revered leader until his passing.
