The Kogi State Government has initiated steps to implement the newly agreed minimum wage of N70,000. As part of this process, the Head of the State Civil Service, Elijah Evinemi, has issued letters requesting nominations from various unions to form a committee that will oversee the wage adjustment.

One of the letters, addressed to the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress and titled “Request for submission of names of committee members in respect of the new minimum wage,” was sent out on Thursday in Lokoja. The letter confirmed that the state’s Executive Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has approved the formation of the committee.

Similar letters have reportedly been sent to other major unions, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), urging them to submit the names of their representatives by Monday, September 16, 2024.

This follows the Federal Government’s agreement with labor unions and the organized private sector in May to establish a minimum wage of N70,000 across the country.
