The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the destruction of more than 100,000 kilograms of cannabis across 51 hectares of farmland in Ekiti State.
This was revealed in a statement issued by Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, on Sunday in Abuja.
According to Mr. Babafemi, NDLEA officers, supported by Nigerian Army personnel, raided three camps in the Ise-Ekiti forest reserve, located within the Ise/Orun Local Government Area, on Tuesday, September 3, and Wednesday, September 4.
He identified the areas affected as Aba Saalaja (23 hectares), Aba Paanu (12 hectares), and Aba Arogunmatidi (16 hectares), all situated within the forest reserve.
Additionally, two individuals were arrested on Friday along the Toro-Jos Road in Kaduna, with 305 kilograms of cannabis (also known as Indian hemp) hidden in a secret compartment of a J5 Boxer van with registration number YLA 682 XM.
Mr. Babafemi also reported that another suspect was apprehended with 18 kilograms of cannabis in Makarfi town. In Jigawa State, a 30-year-old man was caught on Thursday, September 5, with 32.6 kilograms of cannabis in Koran Shehu.
Furthermore, NDLEA operatives in Kogi State intercepted 77,300 tablets of Tramadol, Diazepam, and Exol-5, along with 1,230 bottles of Codeine, from a commercial bus driven by 68-year-old Attai Okolo on the Aloma-Ejule Road in Ofu Local Government Area.
