Ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 qualifier against Benin, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has touched down in Uyo.
Osimhen’s participation had been uncertain due to a turbulent summer transfer window, which saw him involved in complicated negotiations with his club, Napoli, and multiple potential buyers.
At one point, Osimhen was close to securing a transfer to Premier League side Chelsea on deadline day, but the deal ultimately fell through.
After being left out of the Napoli squad, the forward had to seek opportunities elsewhere. He has now joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on a season-long loan, with no buyout clause included. However, he is expected to explore transfer options again in the January window.
The 25-year-old arrived in Akwa Ibom by plane, just a day after being officially unveiled by Galatasaray. Upon his arrival, Osimhen was welcomed by officials from the Nigeria Football Federation, while fans eagerly gathered to take pictures with the star.
Osimhen is anticipated to lead Nigeria’s attack in the crucial qualifier against Benin, having already scored ten goals in the AFCON 2023 qualifying campaign.
The Super Eagles will face Benin Republic on Saturday, September 7, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
