Starting from December 31, 2024, Nigerians residing in the UK will no longer receive Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs) or Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs), as the UK Home Office rolls out a new online eVisa system.
The Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK) stated that this change is part of a broader UK government effort to transition from physical immigration documents to digital ones. The eVisa, which has been heavily promoted throughout 2024, will completely replace physical visas by the end of the year.
CANUK highlighted that Nigerians holding BRCs and BRPs will no longer need these physical documents, as they will be replaced by digital versions, eliminating the need to carry physical proof of their immigration status.
The eVisa will serve as an online record of a person’s immigration status and the conditions of their stay in the UK.
In a joint statement released on Sunday, CANUK Publicity Secretary Rose Graham and Assistant Publicity Secretary Mohammed Yiosese urged Nigerians affected by the change to set up a UKVI account to access their eVisa.
