The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has rescheduled the Local Government elections to October 26, 2024, moving them from the original date of November 30, 2024.
During a Friday press conference, KANSIEC Chairman Sani Malumfashi explained that the new date aligns with a Supreme Court ruling granting local governments autonomy and adheres to a mutual agreement between the State and Federal Governments. The October deadline for Local Government Financial Autonomy also influenced the decision.
Malumfashi emphasized the importance of this change, stating, “To comply with the Supreme Court ruling, the State-Federal Government agreement, and the October deadline for Local Government Financial Autonomy, the Commission has rescheduled the election to October 26, 2024.”
The updated schedule includes:
- Campaign Period: September 1 to October 26, 2024
- Party Primaries and Candidate Submissions: September 3 to September 26, 2024
- Sales of Forms: September 15 to September 26, 2024
