After the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun has been inaugurated as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Kekere-Ekun took the oath of office around 11:38 a.m. and promptly assumed her designated seat beside the President at 11:45 a.m.
The ceremony, held in the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja, marked the beginning of Kekere-Ekun’s tenure in an acting capacity, pending Senate confirmation.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Majority Leader Professor Julius Ihonvbere, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, the outgoing Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, and other Supreme Court justices.
Also present were Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris.
Kekere-Ekun was recommended for the position by the National Judicial Council (NJC) on August 15.
