On Sunday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) launched a robust critique of the Nigeria Police Force, alleging a campaign of harassment and unlawful detention targeting its leaders as the Edo State governorship election approaches on September 21. The PDP has accused the police of conspiring with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to obstruct the party’s activities and suppress its members.
During a press conference, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, who serves as the Director General of the Asue Ighodalo/Osarodion Ogie Campaign Management Council, elaborated on the allegations. He claimed that the police had already detained key PDP figures such as Amos Tom and Kingsley Osahon. Iduoriyekemwen further accused the authorities of planning additional arrests of other prominent party members, including Odion Olaye, Chief Francis Inegbiniki, Chief Olukoga, Festus Osaigbovo, and Kelly Inedegbor. According to him, these arrest warrants were obtained through fraudulent means.
In defense, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, Director of Publicity for the APC Edo Governorship Campaign Council, countered the PDP’s claims, dismissing them as baseless and unfounded. Omo-Ojo accused the PDP of attempting to shift attention from their own alleged misdeeds by making these allegations.
