Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea have bolstered their energy partnership by signing a landmark agreement for the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project on Thursday. The signing took place in Malabo during President Bola Tinubu’s three-day official visit to Equatorial Guinea.

The deal, inked by Tinubu and Equatorial Guinean President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, outlines regulatory frameworks, the establishment and operation of the gas pipeline, natural gas transit, pipeline ownership, and key principles.

Tinubu highlighted the agreement’s potential to open new opportunities for gas exploration and job creation, mentioning that prior discussions with President Mbasogo also covered job creation, food security, multilateral relations, and conflict resolution in Africa.

Mbasogo praised the long-standing ties between the two nations and emphasized the pipeline’s strategic importance for Africa’s development. He also expressed support for Africa’s goal of securing a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council and committed to working with Nigeria towards this aim.
