The German Government has shown keen interest in forging economic ties with Enugu State, particularly in agriculture, energy, trade, and investment. This was highlighted by German Consul General Weert Börner during a visit on Sunday, where he led a delegation from the German business community and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) to meet with Governor Peter Mbah at the Government House in Enugu.
Börner emphasized that Enugu was selected for this cooperation due to the improved business environment under Governor Mbah’s leadership. In response, Governor Mbah welcomed the partnership, expressing confidence that Enugu’s $30 billion GDP target could be reached through collaboration with the private sector and international partners like Germany. He also stressed that Nigeria’s economic growth would largely depend on state-level initiatives and assured German investors of significant opportunities in agriculture, energy, trade, and investment in Enugu.
Governor Mbah further revealed that the state is close to completing and operationalizing the international wing of Akanu Ibiam International Airport and is also working on establishing a cargo terminal to boost exports.
