Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has imposed a 10-day ban on the social media platform X, citing unrest following a disputed election. The suspension, enacted by Venezuela’s telecommunications authority Conatel, responds to accusations from Maduro that X’s owner, Elon Musk, promotes hate and fascism.

The ban follows claims of election fraud after Maduro’s narrow victory on July 28, which has led to protests and skepticism from the U.S., Argentina, and Chile, while China and Russia have congratulated him. Maduro has also urged a shift from WhatsApp to alternatives like Telegram and WeChat, citing threats received via WhatsApp.
