The organizers of the #EndBadGovernance nationwide protest, set for August 1, have rejected Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun’s proposal for confined protests.

During a meeting with the organizers, Egbetokun suggested holding protests in designated locations instead of street rallies, stating, “It is not advisable to go on street processions because while you are planning peaceful protests, others are planning violence.”

However, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, a lawyer for the Take It Back Movement—one of the groups behind the protest—dismissed the IGP’s proposal.

On August 1, Nigerians will take to the streets to protest the current hardships in the country. Despite appeals from both federal and state governments, the organizers are determined to continue with street protests from August 1 to August 10.
