The Conference for the Actualisation of Human Rights (CAHR) has thrown its weight behind the upcoming nationwide protest against hunger and bad governance scheduled for August 1-10.
The group pledged to provide legal and moral support to protesters across the country. In a press briefing, CAHR leaders condemned the current economic hardship faced by Nigerians, blaming the government’s policies, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, for the escalating crisis. They accused President Bola Tinubu of making careless statements and exacerbating the situation.
The human rights group emphasized the constitutional right of citizens to protest and urged the government to create a conducive environment for peaceful demonstrations. They called for the provision of essential services like healthcare, water, and sanitation, as well as protection from police brutality.
CAHR’s stance is in line with growing public discontent over the rising cost of living, food insecurity, and perceived government neglect. The group’s involvement is expected to galvanize support for the protest and put pressure on the government to address the pressing issues affecting Nigerians.
