Gareth Southgate has announced his resignation as England manager. The decision comes just two days after England’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. Southgate, who has held the position for eight years, said, “It’s time for change, and for a new chapter.”
Reflecting on his tenure, he described playing and managing his country as “the honour of my life and meant everything to me.”
The Football Association (FA) is now searching for a replacement and will appoint an interim manager if necessary before the UEFA Nations League campaign begins in September.
FA chief executive Mark Bullingham confirmed that the process to appoint a new manager is underway but declined to comment on potential candidates. However, reports suggest that Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino are being considered for the role.
