The FCT High Court in Abuja denied Emefiele’s request, citing a lack of evidence supporting his need for medical attention abroad. The court also highlighted the ongoing multiple legal cases against the former CBN chief as a factor in its decision.
Emefiele had sought permission to leave the country for medical reasons, but the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) opposed the application, arguing that there was no proof of a medical condition requiring treatment outside Nigeria. The EFCC also expressed concerns about Emefiele being a flight risk due to his pending legal matters.
However, the court agreed with the EFCC’s position and dismissed Emefiele’s application.
