In a major diplomatic breakthrough, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have resolved their longstanding visa dispute.
Effective immediately, Nigerian passport holders can once again apply for visas to travel to the UAE.
The announcement came from Information Minister Mohammed Idris following the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting. The agreement marks the end of a two-year-long visa ban imposed by the UAE amid diplomatic tensions between the two nations.
This development comes on the heels of Emirates Airlines’ decision to resume flights to Lagos in October. The airline had suspended its operations due to challenges repatriating funds from Nigeria.
The visa ban and flight suspension had significantly impacted travel and trade between the two countries. However, recent high-level diplomatic engagements, including a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, have paved the way for a resolution.
With this agreement, Nigerians can now resume travel to the UAE for business, tourism, and other purposes.
