In a new development, the Ebonyi State Government has approved N2 billion to fund scholarships for 597 students attending Nigerian universities.
This sum will cover tuition fees, research expenses, and living costs for the beneficiaries.
Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, announced this during a press briefing on the State Executive Council meeting.
He explained that research funds would be paid directly to the universities along with tuition fees to prevent misuse by the recipients.
Okpor added that civil servants who qualify for the scholarship will receive study leave with pay and other privileges.
To support the launch of academic activities at the University of ICT, Oferekpe, Agbaja, and Aeronautic Engineering University, Ezza, the Executive Council has approved the construction of eight faculty and hostel buildings at these new universities.
Additionally, the Council has approved the purchase of two fire trucks in response to recent fire outbreaks in the state.
