President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive mandating all government ministries, departments, and agencies to procure vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).
Tinubu stated that this directive is part of the country’s efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources, as CNG vehicles are known to produce lower emissions and offer a more cost-effective option for Nigerian consumers.
The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, recently visited a factory where CNG vehicles are manufactured and assured that these vehicles would soon be available. Addressing members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House,
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to energy reforms and emphasized the importance of ensuring energy security, promoting utility, and reducing high fuel costs. Tinubu emphasized the need for proactive action, stating, “This nation will not progress forward if we continue to dance on the same spot.”
He urged FEC members to lead by example in adopting CNG vehicles and directed the rejection of any memos seeking the purchase of traditional petrol-dependent vehicles. He pledged to continue harnessing the nation’s gas potential to alleviate transportation costs and improve the standard of living for all Nigerians.
