In a startling revelation, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, Speaker of the pro-Wike faction of Rivers State House of Assembly, raised concerns on Thursday regarding Governor Similanayi Fubara’s alleged plan to demolish the official quarters of the lawmakers.

Fubara’s visit to the GRA, Port Harcourt quarters on Thursday only intensified suspicions. Amaewhule, speaking to the press after the governor’s departure, claimed that Fubara’s agenda included the dismantling of the recently constructed Rivers State House of Assembly quarters.

The Assembly members were reportedly taken aback by the governor’s unexpected visit. Amaewhule did not mince words, accusing Fubara of disregarding both the federal and state laws he is obligated to uphold, transforming into, in the eyes of Nigerians, a ‘chief breaker of the law’.

Amaewhule praised the quality of the House of Assembly quarters, attributing its construction to the former Governor Nyesom Wike. He highlighted its inauguration by Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives and current Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Expressing deep disappointment, Amaewhule criticized what he perceived as the governor’s unjustified interference, emphasizing that the quarters were designed for members of the legislative assembly, not the executive.

‘We are deeply troubled to have a Governor who shows no respect for our Constitution, laws, and democratic norms. Our Governor’s actions are an assault on democracy,’ Amaewhule concluded.
