The Minister of Works, David Umahi, Affirms Federal Government’s Pledge to Expedite Completion of Abuja-Kaduna-Katsina-Kano Federal Highway

Minister Umahi reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda to swiftly finalize the construction of the Abuja-Kaduna-Katsina-Kano Federal Highway. This assurance was conveyed during a courtesy visit by Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State to the minister’s office in Abuja on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Umahi disclosed that he had received a directive from President Tinubu to devise a plan aimed at completing the project within the next year. He assured Governor Sani that the project, which was inherited from the previous administration, would be divided into three sections and commenced promptly.

“We will commence the first section, spanning 38 kilometers by 2, equivalent to 76 kilometers, under the supervision of Dangote Group of Companies through a Tax Credit arrangement, employing concrete for construction,” Umahi explained. “Subsequently, the next 82 kilometers will be handled by Julius Berger, and the final 20 kilometers by 2, totaling 40 kilometers, will be entrusted to BUA, also utilizing concrete. I can guarantee that work will commence on these three sections within the month of May.”

Umahi praised Governor Sani for the remarkable peace and progress experienced in Kaduna State under his leadership, despite existing challenges.

Additionally, Umahi disclosed that the directive from the president to design the Sokoto-Badagry Highway spanning 1,000 kilometers was being expedited by the Federal Ministry of Works. This project is intended to revive the historic African trade route traversing Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos States, connecting to Badagry.

Furthermore, a proposal is in the works to link the South East to the North via the Trans Sahara Highway, with a route passing through Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, and concluding in Abuja.

Governor Sani lauded the visionary leadership and determination of the President in revolutionizing road infrastructure, which serves as a catalyst for the nation’s socio-economic advancement. He commended the president’s initiatives to construct the Lagos-Calabar Road and the Sokoto-Badagry Road, recognizing their potential to enhance the country’s socio-economic landscape upon completion.
