Amidst fuel scarcity, Nigerian workers join the global celebration of Workers’ Day, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio appealing to them to persevere and make sacrifices to propel the nation forward amid prevailing economic challenges.
Akpabio pledges collaboration between the Senate and the government to enhance workers’ welfare, promising a living wage and improved working conditions. His statement, conveyed through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, congratulates workers on the 2024 May Day and commends their patriotism, hard work, resilience, and dedication to duty.
Addressing this year’s theme, “Ensuring safety and health at work in a changing climate,” Akpabio assures the National Assembly’s commitment to providing optimal working conditions, declaring that no Nigerian worker will endure inhumane conditions again. He emphasizes the legislative enablement to safeguard workers’ interests, create conducive workplaces, and ensure fair remuneration.
Expressing solidarity with workers worldwide, Akpabio emphasizes the transient nature of tough times and assures that their sacrifices will not be in vain. He underscores the significance of the theme, aligning with international standards, and pledges Nigeria’s commitment to upholding them.
Meanwhile, Akpabio extends wishes for a happy International Labour Day on behalf of the Senate, the National Assembly, and his family, recognizing and appreciating workers’ patriotism, hard work, commitment, and dedication. He assures workers that better days lie ahead, urging them to remain resilient.
