The Lagos State government has unveiled its ambitious plan to introduce a fleet of approximately 2,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and 231 electric vehicles into its transportation network by the end of 2024.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made the announcement during the 2024 ministerial briefing on the activities of the ministry under Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu’s administration at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Osiyemi outlined that discussions are underway with a private company to acquire the CNG buses, which will be rolled out in two phases. The first phase, comprising 1,000 buses, is scheduled for introduction by the end of 2024. This strategic move aims to alleviate the impact of the Federal Government’s removal of fuel subsidy on Lagos residents.

Meanwhile, the government aims to launch 231 electric vehicles by June 2024, as part of its commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions. These initiatives signify a significant step towards enhancing public transportation infrastructure and reducing carbon emissions in the state.
