Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has urged parents to foster a culture of reading among the youth, emphasizing the significance of literacy.
His call came on Monday through a press statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication, Emmanuel Bello, as he lauded Asogha Wunuji, the victor of the recent Readathon contest.
Wunuji, hailing from Taraba State, made headlines by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous reading session, clocking in at an impressive 166 hours. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 124 hours, establishing Wunuji as the world’s longest reader.
Governor Kefas commended Wunuji’s unwavering determination and resilience, expressing his belief in Wunuji’s success during their prior meeting at the Government Lodge in Wukari. He hailed Wunuji’s accomplishment as a testament to the power of perseverance and encouraged young people to draw inspiration from his journey, underscoring the message that dedication and focus can lead to remarkable achievements.
Highlighting the importance of solidarity among youths, Governor Kefas emphasized that Wunuji’s triumph is a victory for all. He also stressed the value of teamwork, reflecting on the collaborative effort demonstrated by Wunuji’s peers during the competition.
Additionally, Governor Kefas emphasized the alignment of the reading contest with his administration’s free education policy and underscored the pivotal role of libraries in effective learning. He urged parents to instill a passion for reading in their children, recognizing books as invaluable resources for success and indispensable guides in life’s journey.
