The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has taken action against an Abuja-based Chinese supermarket located at the China General Chamber of Commerce.
The FCCPC officials arrived at the premises on Monday and sealed the supermarket after conducting inquiries with Nigerian staff members.
The closure comes in response to public outrage on Sunday over the discriminatory policy implemented by the Chinese supermarket, which restricted entry solely to Chinese citizens and prohibited Nigerians from entering.
Shaibu Sanusi, the facility manager of the complex, confirmed that while Nigerians from outside the complex were denied access to the supermarket, Nigerians within the complex were allowed to shop there.
Despite the closure of the supermarket, there are suspicions that some individuals may be hiding inside to evade confrontation with the authorities.
