The China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC) has confirmed a 5.7-magnitude earthquake in Hualien County, Taiwan, China, occurring at 6:50 p.m. local time on Monday.
The quake’s epicenter was pinpointed at 23.76 degrees north latitude and 121.51 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 10 km. Preceding this event, at 6:46 p.m. local time, a 5.3-magnitude earthquake shook the sea area near Hualien at the same depth.
The CENC reported the epicenter of this earlier quake at 23.74 degrees north latitude and 121.59 degrees east longitude. Earlier in the day, at 5:08 p.m. local time, another 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit the sea area near Hualien.
