An Osun State High Court has deposed Oba Johnson Ajiboye, the traditional ruler of Olola of Ola in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State. Justice Lawrence Arojo delivered the judgment, igniting tension in the town.
Despite a pending court case and restraining order, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, appointed Ajiboye as monarch on January 3, 2024, through the State Executive Council.
Justice Arojo granted six interlocutory injunctions in a motion filed by the opposing family on March 25, 2024, alleging illegality.
Fatimah Adesina, representing the family, confirmed the Osun State High Court’s declaration of the Olola of Ola stool as vacant.
Since Ajiboye’s selection, the community has been in turmoil. Dr. Femi Fasanya, the head of kingmakers, boycotted and disowned Ajiboye’s installation in January 2024.
Following this, the opposing family, Olugbode, represented by David Salako and Kola Sangoniran, filed a motion seeking Ajiboye’s removal and nullification of his appointment letter.
In an April 10, 2024 petition to the Osun Police Command, Kolawole Sangoniran expressed concerns about potential anarchy in Ola. The deposed king allegedly planned to confer chieftaincy titles at the Olola of Ola’s palace.
The petition sought intervention to prevent the planned program and disobedience to court orders, aiming to avert potential violence and maintain law and order.
