The President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially announced that Ramadan fasting for this year will commence on Monday.
The declaration was made through a concise statement released by Mallam Yahaya Muhammad Boyi, a member of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC).
“The Sultanate Council Sokoto has declared Monday 11/3/2024 as the first day of Ramadan 1445 AH, Yahaya Muhammad Boyi, Sarkin Malaman Sokoto,” the statement affirmed.
Earlier, the Sultan had advised Muslims across the country to anticipate the start of Ramadan after sunset on Sunday, March 10, corresponding to the 29th of Sha’aban 1445 AH.
Prof. Salisu Shehu, the Deputy Secretary General of NSCIA, echoed the call, urging the Nigerian Muslim community to observe the crescent of Ramadan 1445 AH immediately after sunset on Sunday, March 10, 2024, which aligns with the 29th of Sha’aban 1445 AH.
