The Jigawa State Government is taking proactive steps to address recurring flood disasters by establishing a Permanent Flood Disaster Emergency Trust Fund.
Governor Umar Namadi announced this initiative during the inauguration of a flood disaster management committee at the Government House, as conveyed by Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
Governor Namadi emphasized the urgency of resolving outstanding issues from the previous committee’s report and commended the former committee for their commendable efforts in mobilizing funds and providing relief to flood victims.
Led by Arc. Aminu Kani, the newly formed committee has been tasked with finalizing the operational framework of the Trust Fund. Their objectives include refining the draft bill to cover the Trust Fund’s establishment, funding sources, governance structure, and operational procedures, as well as resolving any pending payment issues.
Governor Namadi expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver within a two-month timeframe and assured them of full logistical support. Once the legislation establishing the Trust Fund is enacted, Governor Namadi affirmed his commitment to its effective implementation in accordance with the law.
