The Federal Government has announced plans for repair works on the damaged expansion joints of the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway’s Long Bridge, starting Monday.
Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, made this announcement in a statement issued on Friday night in Lagos. Kesha expressed regret for any inconvenience the repairs may cause motorists and appealed for patience and cooperation from the public.
“The Federal Ministry of Works wishes to inform the motoring public that repair works for the damaged expansion joints on the Long Bridge will commence by Monday, March 4, 2024, simultaneously on both bounds of the bridge,” Kesha stated.
“As a result, traffic leaving and entering Lagos via the Long Bridge will be reduced to two lanes on both sides of the bridge to allow the contractor handling the repairs to begin work on the other two lanes of the carriageways.”
She further advised all road users to exercise patience and adhere to lane discipline on both approaches to the Long Bridge and within the narrowed sections on the bridge.
However, an earth road beside the Sagamu-bound carriageway will be made usable as a complementary route, and motorists are encouraged to utilize alternative routes. Cooperation with traffic management officials deployed to manage traffic is also urged to ensure smooth movement during the repair period.
According to the notification, repairs will commence at 7:00 a.m. on Monday and are expected to continue until March 25th.
