Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum distributed 447 resettlement housing units to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Dalori community of Konduga Local Government Area on Sunday.
Zulum highlighted that these beneficiaries had been displaced from their homes by Boko Haram insurgents, but the government had stepped in to provide vital humanitarian assistance, enabling their return home and fostering self-reliance.
The households selected for the housing units were chosen from two IDP camps – 197 from Kawar Maila camp and 250 from Dalori town.
Each of the 447 households, totaling around 2,500 family members, received essential items such as food, mats, blankets, and clothing materials.
Furthermore, Governor Zulum pledged additional support in the form of agricultural tools and entrepreneurship guidance to help the returnees establish sustainable livelihoods.
He emphasized the importance of reintegrating people into their ancestral communities, empowering them to take charge of their own futures and contribute to the state’s development.
Governor Zulum also underscored the progress made in closing official IDP camps in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and surrounding areas since 2023, with a commitment to shuttering all informal camps in Maiduguri by May 29.
“We have already begun the process of closing down informal IDP camps in Maiduguri, and we are determined to complete this task before May 29,” affirmed Governor Zulum.
