The Federal High Court in Ilorin imposed restrictions on journalists, barring their entry to cover the trial of former Kwara State governor, AbdulFatah Ahmed.
Ahmed, accused of misappropriating N10 billion in state funds, was brought to court on Friday morning, arriving at the Federal High Court on Fare Road in Ilorin by 8:50 am.
Authorities, including police officers and court registrars, prevented journalists from entering the court premises, citing directives from higher authorities.
Wahab Oba, Chief Press Secretary to the ex-governor, voiced his concerns outside the court, denouncing the perceived secrecy surrounding the trial and labelling it as politically motivated.
Oba emphasized the importance of transparency in the legal proceedings and questioned the decision to deny media coverage, especially given the usual openness of court proceedings. Journalists, meanwhile, remained gathered outside the court premises, awaiting updates on the trial’s proceedings and outcome.
