Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, affirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving the recently established Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), stating that there are no plans to abolish them.
Instead, Governor Aiyedatiwa announced the forthcoming formation of transition committees for the 18 Local Government Areas and 33 LCDAs in preparation for the upcoming local government elections.
This declaration came during a meeting with former members of Caretaker Committees of the LGAs and LCDAs at the Governor’s Office in Akure. Governor Aiyedatiwa underscored the importance of maintaining the LCDAs, citing them as a crucial legacy of the late former governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Addressing the 255 former appointees, the governor acknowledged the delay in their inauguration due to a court case initiated by the opposition party and subsequent court injunction. However, he assured them of ongoing efforts to resolve the legal matter through a political solution, which has received court approval.
Once the case is withdrawn, Governor Aiyedatiwa pledged to rectify any errors in the appointment list and promptly inaugurate transition committees for both the LGAs and LCDAs. He urged the former appointees to demonstrate unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in their respective areas, emphasizing the importance of unity for the party’s advancement and the state’s development.
Engr. Ade Adetimehin, the State APC chairman, echoed the governor’s call for unity within the party, commending Governor Aiyedatiwa for his engagement with party members. Hon. Olaniyi Gbenga and Mrs. Funke Kumuyi, speaking on behalf of the former appointees, expressed appreciation for the governor’s efforts and pledged their continued loyalty and support for his administration.
