The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has issued a 10-day ultimatum to 86 government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to settle their outstanding electricity debt totaling N47.1 billion or face disconnection.
According to an advertorial released by the company, the notice comes after the MDAs failed to pay their December balances.
The advert stated that despite previous attempts to prompt payment, the MDAs have not fulfilled their obligations.
The AEDC warned that if the debts are not settled within the specified timeframe, starting from Wednesday, February 28, 2024, they will disconnect services.
Among the top debtors listed are the Chief of Defence Staff-Barracks and Military Formations with a debt of N12 billion, followed by the Ministry of FCT with N7.5 billion, the Ministry of Finance with N5.4 billion, and the Niger State Governor, Abuja Liaison Office with N3.4 billion.
