The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced a nationwide protest scheduled for February 27 and 28.

Joe Ajaero, the President of the NLC, made this declaration during an emergency meeting held at Labour House, Abuja, last Friday.

Ajaero stated that the decision to stage the protest came after the expiry of a 14-day ultimatum previously issued to the Federal Government concerning the widespread hardships faced across the nation.

According to reports from Daily Trust, the ultimatum was issued to push for reforms aimed at alleviating the current difficulties experienced by Nigerians.

The unions have accused the Federal Government of failing to uphold the agreements reached in October.

Ajaero expressed regret over the necessity of resorting to such actions, citing the continuous neglect of citizens’ welfare and the extensive suffering endured by Nigerian workers as the driving force behind the decision.

Acknowledging the urgency of the situation and the importance of safeguarding the rights and dignity of Nigerian workers and citizens, both the NLC and TUC have jointly issued a strong ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding fulfillment of their obligations within 14 days from February 9, 2024, as stated during a media briefing last week.
