Labour Party Suspends National Treasurer Amidst Allegations and Counterclaims

The Labour Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has taken decisive action by imposing a six-month suspension on its National Treasurer, Mrs. Oluchi Oparah.

This decision was announced during a press conference convened at the party’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

In response, Oparah expressed skepticism, suggesting that the NWC’s move was premeditated, particularly as she was unable to meet the 10 am Wednesday deadline due to her absence from Abuja.

Earlier in the week, Oparah had leveled serious accusations against the LP’s National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, alleging mismanagement of funds amounting to N3.5bn derived from the sale of nomination forms and fundraising efforts for the 2023 general election.

Moreover, during an appearance on Arise TV’s ‘Good Morning Show’ on Tuesday, Oparah further alleged collusion between the Abure-led NWC and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-governed Edo State Government.

However, during the Wednesday media briefing, the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, countered Oparah’s claims, branding her as a mole manipulated by dissidents to sow discord within the party.
