The President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar, has called upon Muslims in Nigeria to watch for the crescent moon of Sha’aban 1445AH after sunset on Saturday, 29th Rajab, 1445AH (February 10, 2024), in anticipation of this year’s Ramadan fasting.
Abubakar’s message was conveyed through a statement issued by Professor Salisu Shehu, the Deputy Secretary-General of the NSCIA. According to the statement, the expected time for the moon’s conjunction scientifically falls on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11:59 pm.
It’s worth noting that the moon typically becomes visible sometime after the conjunction has occurred unless hindered by environmental factors. The commencement of Sha’aban, the eighth lunar calendar month, suggests that Ramadan for this year (the ninth lunar month) is likely to commence in early March.
