Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has issued a stark warning, asserting that Nigeria is teetering on the brink of a crisis marked by economic distress, rampant kidnapping, and escalating banditry.
Adeyanju cautioned that the nation’s current predicament could ignite a major upheaval sooner than anticipated.
In a statement, he called on President Bola Tinubu to forge alliances with religious institutions, mosques, churches, and traditional leaders to combat corruption within the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIPs).
According to Adeyanju, such collaborations are essential to ensuring the transparent and efficient allocation of resources, thereby guaranteeing that assistance reaches its intended recipients without interference.
“It is imperative to acknowledge the precarious situation facing Nigeria, characterized by widespread hardship, insecurity, and a surge in kidnappings,” Adeyanju emphasized.
He stressed that failure to address these pressing issues promptly could trigger mass protests and potentially culminate in a significant revolution.
Adeyanju underscored the urgent need for President Tinubu to reinstate suspended programmes aimed at providing crucial support to ordinary citizens and the vulnerable segments of society. He urged Tinubu to prioritize the welfare of the populace as a fundamental aspect of governance.
