The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) made an announcement on Thursday, confirming the amicable resolution of the interconnect debt dispute between MTN Nigeria Plc and Globacom Limited.
In its statement released on Thursday night, the NCC disclosed that the approval granted to MTN for the disconnection of Globacom has been revoked, in line with the resolved agreement.
The commission explained that following its initial public notice, it intervened further by mediating between the involved parties and facilitating the reconciliation process to prevent any potential disruptions to subscribers.
However, the NCC emphasized the critical importance of all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and other licensees in the telecommunications industry adhering strictly to the terms and conditions outlined in their interconnection agreements.
“To proactively address and prevent future instances of interconnect indebtedness within the industry, the Commission will be requesting relevant records and regular updates from MNOs, as well as adopting a transparent approach towards industry indebtedness,” the NCC stated, as signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Mouka.
The statement concluded by reiterating the NCC’s commitment to fostering a stable and compliant telecommunications ecosystem in Nigeria.
