The Federal Government has authorized waivers for hospitals to facilitate the recruitment of healthcare workers, aiming to enhance healthcare services.
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Health, made this announcement during an official visit to the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, on Thursday.
Alausa outlined that medical directors would receive waivers for hiring starting from 2024, with the Federal Ministry of Health establishing a committee to oversee waiver applications across all hospitals.
He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the recruitment process, ensuring that hospitals adhere to the designated recruitment quotas outlined in their budgets.
Regarding UCH’s challenges, particularly in power supply, Alausa suggested exploring alternative energy sources like solar power to mitigate power shortages. Additionally, he encouraged UCH to focus on training more healthcare specialists to meet evolving demands in the healthcare sector.
