In a decisive ruling, the Supreme Court affirmed Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s victory as the Governor of Adamawa State.
Justice John Okoro, who authored and delivered the leading judgment on Wednesday, dismissed the appeal lodged by the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aisha Dahiru.
Justice Okoro, leading a five-member panel, declared Dahiru’s appeal devoid of merit. He strongly criticized the conduct of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Ari, condemning it as both irresponsible and criminal.
Furthermore, Justice Okoro emphasized the pivotal role of the returning officer in announcing election results, highlighting this as a crucial measure to prevent chaos and ensure orderliness in the electoral process. He underscored that the Electoral Act explicitly grants the returning officer exclusive authority to declare election results, reinforcing the integrity of the electoral process.
