The Federal Government has announced a surge in National Identity Number (NIN) enrollment, reaching a total of 104.16 million by the close of 2023, as per the latest data from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

This marks an impressive growth of 10.3 million new enrollments throughout 2023, compared to the cumulative 94.03 million recorded in December 2022. Delving into the gender distribution, NIMC’s data illustrates that 59.12 million individuals, constituting 56.8% of the NIN database, are male. Conversely, 45.04 million individuals, representing 43.2% of the total enrollees, are female.

This update comes amid the impending February 28, 2024, deadline set by mobile network operators for the linkage of Subscribers Identification Modules (SIMs) to NIN. However, it’s worth noting that the current NIN enrollment figures fall short of Nigeria’s World Bank target of 148 million by June 2024.
