Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, a respected figure who had been contending with a grave illness, has passed away.
The 67-year-old, who served two terms as governor, breathed his last in Germany last night at approximately 10 pm, where he had been undergoing medical treatment. The heartbreaking news was officially confirmed by a commissioner in Ondo state to P.M.News on Wednesday. The cause of his demise has been linked to leukemia.
Wale Akinterinwa, the commissioner for finance and a close ally of Akeredolu, acknowledged the truth of the matter, stating, “It is true.” Akeredolu, a distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria, took office as governor on February 24, 2017.
Despite grappling with health issues, he commenced his second term in 2021. After returning to Nigeria in September following a three-month medical leave in Germany, the ailing governor took another leave in early December. During this time, he handed over the leadership responsibilities to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
