Northern Governors Condemn Barbaric Attacks in Plateau: Calls for Swift Justice

The Northern Governors Forum, led by Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state, has strongly denounced the audacious assaults on communities in Plateau state, resulting in the tragic loss of over 100 lives and extensive property damage.

Governor Yahaya labeled the attacks as “reprehensible and disheartening,” emphasizing the cowardice and contradiction to the region’s values of unity and coexistence.

In a press statement, Yahaya expressed appreciation for Governor Caleb Muftwang’s leadership in the aftermath of the attacks. He acknowledged the significance of addressing such violence, particularly during the festive season, condemning the destruction of lives and properties.

The governor stressed the need for prioritizing peace and harmonious living, urging a renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence despite differences.

While commending the prompt response of security operatives, Governor Inuwa insisted on the swift apprehension of the attackers and their masterminds. He underscored the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions.

Plateau, characterized by ethnic and religious diversity, has been a hotspot for inter-communal conflicts, often framed as ethno-religious tensions between Muslim herders and predominantly Christian farmers.
